WELCOME TO THE CENTRE FOR PRE-DEGREE STUDIES, OSUN STATE UNIVERSITY
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Centre for Pre-Degree Studies (CPDS), Osun State University (UNIOSUN), a Centre committed to providing quality academic preparation and creating meaningful pathways to undergraduate education for prospective university students.
The Centre for Pre-Degree Studies was established to provide an opportunity for candidates who aspire to pursue undergraduate programmes at Osun State University but may not have met the admission requirements of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) or other relevant entry requirements. Through a well-structured and intensive academic programme, the Centre equips students with the knowledge, skills, confidence and discipline required to excel in subsequent university studies.
Our primary goal is to enhance the academic performance and preparedness of students across the Sciences, Arts and Social Sciences, while giving them a strong foundation for successful admission into appropriate undergraduate programmes of the University, subject to meeting the applicable admission requirements.
At the Centre, students are exposed to rigorous instruction in subjects relevant to their chosen areas of study. Students in the Science stream receive intensive training in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English Language. Those in the Arts stream are trained in English Language, Literature-in-English and Government, while students in the Social Sciences are offered English Language, Mathematics, Economics and Government.
Our mode of teaching and learning is designed to provide students with a comprehensive and engaging academic experience. It combines formal classroom lectures, tutorials, practical sessions for Science students, and educational field observations and excursions for students in the Arts and Social Sciences. These approaches are complemented by continuous academic guidance and mentoring aimed at identifying students' strengths, addressing areas of difficulty and fostering independent learning.
In recognition of the growing importance of digital competence in higher education and the workplace, the Centre also provides students with specialised training in computer appreciation and digital skills, culminating in a Cisco-awarded certificate. This initiative is designed to complement their academic development with relevant technological competencies required in today's increasingly digital world.
Beyond academic instruction, the Centre places considerable emphasis on discipline, character development, personal responsibility and excellence. We believe that preparing students for university goes beyond passing examinations; it involves developing well-rounded individuals who are intellectually curious, confident, responsible and prepared to contribute positively to society.
As the Acting Director, I encourage prospective and current students to take full advantage of the opportunities available at the Centre. I also invite parents, guardians and other stakeholders to partner with us in supporting our students throughout their academic journey. Our dedicated team of academic and administrative staff remains committed to providing a conducive environment where every student can learn, grow and realise their educational aspirations.
At the Centre for Pre-Degree Studies, we are not merely preparing students for admission; we are preparing them for success at the university and beyond.
